Letter from the Vicar, forwarding a petition from about 20 tithe-holders of Elmstead, in support of William Parsons Partridge, of Elmstead Hall, who has lost all his money because of the reduced value of land; the Farmers' Benevolent Institution is oversubscribed, owing to the severe agricultural distress.

A petition signed by communicants and adult members of the congregation, explaining that the pews in the chance are unsatisfactory and seats and in their position with their backs towards the communion table. The whole church needs reseating: if the College with pay for the chancel pews, the parishioners will pay for the seating in the body of the church. With a covering letter signed by the Vicar and Churchwardens, and a letter from the Curate, R.H. Marsh, on the same subject, dated 1892.

Consists of two typescripts with minor corrections noted.

The paper was due to be included in 'Language in a Biological Frame', a publication resulting from a series of seminars given at the Salk Institute in 1968-1969.
