Comprises correspondence relating to meetings of the Conference Committee of the Salk Institute (Fellows and Trustees), and the organisation and governance of the Institute. Matters discussed included: the calling of the first meeting of the Committee; the division of duties between the Director (Jonas Salk), Deputy Director (Bronowski) and the President; and the relationship between the academic staff at the Institute and the Board of Trustees.

Correspondents are Warren Weaver (Chairman, Board of Trustees), Jonas Salk, George S. Conn (Treasurer), Augustus Kinzel. Gerard Piel, Resident Fellows elected to the Committee of Fellows (Renato Dulbecco, Edwin Lennox, Bronowski), Non-Resident Fellows, Administrative Staff, Basil O'Connor (The National Foundation), Ferdinand T. Fletcher (Secretary, Board of Trustees), and members of the Board of Trustees.

Also includes minutes and reports on meetings of the Committee, draft job descriptions for the President and Director of the Salk Institute, draft proposed changes to the by-laws of the Institute (May 1965), photocopied handwritten notes by Bronowski [for a Conference Committee meeting] (14 Sep 1965), and a diagram of a proposed organisational structure of the Institute (by Bronowski, May-Jun 1964).
