        History

        Thomas Coates was born in 1871 at Full Sutton, Yorkshire, and attended school in Oundle. He came up to Jesus College in 1890 and received a B. A. in 1893 and an M.A. in 1897. He became Assistant Master at Cherbourg Preparatory School in Malvern from 1893-4, and was at Loughborough Grammar School from 1894-7. He went on to be Assistant Master at Bedford Modern School from 1908 to 1931. He died on 13 March 1944 at Aspley Guise.
