Scope and content

Consists of carbon copies of letters sent by Bronowski, Sylvia Fitzgerald (Secretary for Science Horizons Inc.) and Kathleen Verlander (Secretary to Bronowski).

Subjects include: plans for Bronowski's trip to London to promote 'The Ascent of Man' in October and November; the United States edition of 'The Ascent of Man' book; and Bronowski's pension from the National Coal Board.

Also includes: letters of reference in support of job applications by Professor Fred Sommers (for Chair of Philosophy at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom), and by Roy Ascott (for Chairman in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Victoria, Canada); and a letter to George Derfer answering questions on Bronowski's philosophy about the unity of art and science.

Additionally includes a photocopy of a handwritten letter from Bronowski to Lord Taylor (Vice Chancellor, Memorial University of Newfoundland) about 'The Ascent of Man' and stating that the cleverest man that Bronowski ever met was John von Neumann.
