On 5th May 1820 William Hayward was admitted as an attorney before Lord Chief Justice Best of King's Bench Court. He then immediately joined the firm of solicitors Pemberton and Fiske to form Pemberton, Fiske and Haywood. This lasted until the death of Thomas Fiske in 1829 when the firm changed its name to Pemberton and Hayward. This continued until Haywood's death on 7th February 1838

The original practice had been started by Christopher Pemberton in 1789 and eventually became Mills & Reeve
