Shallow and Colemen was a firm of ironmongers and iron merchants active in Cambridge between 1839 and 1875. The business was owned by Thomas Shallow (1798-1876), an ironmonger and whitesmith who lived at 49 Sidney Street. According to 'Capturing Cambridge', some iron bollards produced by the firm still line the Backs in Queens' Road.
Walter Montagu Scott was born in 1867 in London and attended Harrow. He came up to Jesus college in October 1886 and received a B. A. in 1889 and an M. A. in 1893. He played rugby for Jesus College and for England vs the Maoris in 1888. He was a member of the London Stock Exchange and J. P. for Gloucestershire in 1906. He died on 14 August 1920.
