Copy of letters patent of Elizabeth I. Grant to George Lazenby who has been despoiled of his goods by order of the King of Spain in time of war, of the lease of the Rectory of Elmstede in Essex with all its appurtenances formerly belonging to the Monastery of St. Osyth, Essex, and formerly parcel of the possessions of George Harte by letters patent 18th July 1567 for term 21 years from Michaelmas 1582. Rent £9 6s 8d. Except for timber, wardships, marriages etc Court Leet and view of frankpledge, requisitions, profits of courts, etc and the advowson of the Church. Term of this lease Michaelmas 1603 for 31 years. Rent £9 6s 8d. Attached is list of documents removed from and returned to the Treasury of John Sherman and others.

Negotiations with the Ecclesiastical Commission to augment the living: correspondence between the Bursar, the Commission, and the new Vicar, J. Howard Goodwin. There is still money owed for dilapidations. The file contains a letter from a churchwarden 1904, detailing the problems caused by the absence of a full-time vicar, and several from J.H.Goodwin, on the financial terms on which he could accept the living.

Discussing finance for a new East Window in the church, and for creating a 'parish room' out of the laundry, wine and beer cellars of the vicarage, to serve as a meeting place for parish organisations to be created e.g. scouts, friendly societies etc. The file contains letters from the Vicar, G.D. Shenton, a letter from J.E.K and J.P. Cutts, architects, and plans for the window and the parish room, now removed to the cabinet.

A petition signed by communicants and adult members of the congregation, explaining that the pews in the chance are unsatisfactory and seats and in their position with their backs towards the communion table. The whole church needs reseating: if the College with pay for the chancel pews, the parishioners will pay for the seating in the body of the church. With a covering letter signed by the Vicar and Churchwardens, and a letter from the Curate, R.H. Marsh, on the same subject, dated 1892.

Letter from the Rector to the Bursar, asking permission to use money held by Queen Anne's Bounty - the balance of insurance money for a fire in 1893 - for different purposes, viz. improving the land and farm buildings. There is a formal letter from his Agents, a specification and three plans of the changes he is suggesting. Some fields have been cleard of brambles at his own expense, and are now available for sheep; two fields are full of enormous thorn bushes and brambles and are let to the M.F.H. [Master of Fox Hounds] for sporting purposes. The file concludes with a Faculty of 1908 authorizing the change in expenditure.
